The urgent need to treat multi-drug resistant pathogenic microorganisms in chronically infected patients has given rise to the development of new antimicrobials from natural resources. We have tested Elaeis guineensis Jacq (Arecaceae) methanol extract against a variety of bacterial, fungal and yeast strains associated with infections. Our studies have demonstrated that E. guineensis exhibits E. guineensis leaf extract has been used traditionally for wound healing in some parts of Africa (Sasidharan et al. 2010 ). Elaeis guineensis leaf extract prepared by boiling and administered orally has been used as a herbal remedy for malaria in the Dangme West District of Ghana (Asase et al. 2010 ). 2.1 Introduction. There are two species of oil palm in the world, Elaeis guineensis and E. oleifera, the African and American oil palm, respectively.
