CSS floats - layout rules - floats don't overlap in a smaller container

Div float right overlap syndrome

This time I'm having trouble with the "updates" and "frontpage" divs. "updates" is a right float but when the screen size is any smaller than my own it overlaps the frontpage div. I don't want to just have it disappear behind it, I need them to be side by side no matter the screen size (excluding mobile, I'll just edit it later to have the Use a negative margin-right on the left box so that the right box is allowed to overlap: width: 250px; border: 1px solid #ccc; display: inline; float: left; margin-right:-104px; The 104 pixels is the overlap amount plus 4px for borders.
