Luis Barragán is born in Guadalajara, in the Mexican state of Jalisco, on 9 March as the third child of Juan José Barragán and Ángela Morfín. The family, which eventually grows to nine children, owns large expanses of land including a ranch in the Sierra del Tigre. Built in 1948, the House and Studio of architect Luis Barragán in the suburbs of Mexico City represents an outstanding example of the architect's creative work in the post-Second World War period.
