Destruction Bay Destruction Bay is a small community on the Alaska Highway next to Kluane Lake. It lies 19 km southeast of Burwash Landing and is home to approximately 43 people. Originally built as a construction camp for the Alaska Highway, Destruction Bay was named for a severe windstorm that occurred in the 1940s. A boat ramp in Destruction Bay provides access to Kluane Lake, an ideal Burwash is an attractive East Sussex village with a good number of 15th and 16th century buildings. One of these, half a mile south of Burwash is the fine house of Bateman's, which has helped make Burwash ever-so-slightly famous and something of a good spot for tourists to visit.
