After the triumph of her first two albums (Double Platinum and Platinum), Kery James was born Alix Mathurin on December 24th, 1977 in Vitry-sur-Seine, France. He began rapping at age 16 and released his first demo tape in 1997 under the name "Mikael". The demo tape was noticed by the hip-hop collective Tandem, which he later joined in 1998.
