VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. - Every now and then 8-year-old Kimber Poindexter likes a little glitz and glam. With her infectiously positive spirit, you wouldn't be able to tell that she's battling a lot Laura "TheSoulWriter" Poindexter is a native New Yorker (Harlem) and was raised by her paternal grandmother after the sudden death of her mother at age six. Laura always had a love for the arts and was a dancer for The Dance Theater of Harlem in her pre-teen years. Always know for being creative and talented even as a child, she would first Burleson and her two children died in a house fire in Oklahoma City shortly before 6 a.m. on Mother's Day 1998. When firefighters arrived, the structure was engulfed in heavy flames and thick smoke.
