En el año de 1,979 a los tarmeños se les ocurre cultivar los fértiles terrenos del Valle de Chanchamayo y, con este motivo se construye una trocha para el acceso, pues el antiguo se había borrado por la vegetación y por causas naturales. Después de la independencia del Perú, en el año 1,827 se inició la apertura de un camino de Posteriormente el Distrito de Chanchamayo fue elevado a nivel de Provincia mediante D.L. 21941 del 24 de Setiembre de 1,977 con su capital de Provincia la ciudad de La Merced y sus distritos de: Vitoc, San Lu i s de Shuaro, Perene, San Ram ó n y Pichanaki.
