December 06, 2023 On Jan. 1, 2024, The Joint Commission will launch a new certification program on the Responsible Use of Health Data™ (RUHD™) for U.S. hospitals.The new certification will provide guidance and recognize healthcare organizations navigating the appropriate sensitivities needed to safely use data for purposes beyond clinical care, known as secondary use of data. After a review of the literature and consultation with a technical advisory panel, The Joint Commission decided to introduce new Standard IC.07.01.01 and two new elements of performance (EPs) to enhance hospitals' and critical access hospitals' preparedness for high-consequence infectious diseases or special pathogens.
