How to Care for Lithops (Living Stone Plants) To care for lithops indoors, grow the living stone plant in full sun and dry sandy soil. Watering is the most critical aspect of lithops care. Only water a living stone plant in the fall and spring. The optimal temperature range for growth is 65°F to 80°F (18°C - 26°C). They grow best in temperatures such as 60-80 degrees, but can tolerate temperatures such as 90-100 degrees. Lithops are not cold hardy succulents, and will die in freezing temperatures. It's best to grow and move them indoors during the cold winter season if your location gets under 30 degrees. The Lithops optica is among the most recognizable species because its leaves are heavily incised and are dark gray-green color. The flowers are white and bloom in autumn. The variety Lithops optica var. rubra (pictured above). Lithops Care and Life Cycle Technique.
