Gun coatings such as Cerakote, DuraCoat and KG Gunkote are applied via compressed-air sprayers. They differ somewhat in composition and may be air- or heat-cured. Spray-on coatings are best-suited 1: the barrel does not have to be shot first. 2: it does not make anything "entirely resistant to rusting". 3: done plenty of barrels that were not shot prior and they freakin hammer. One barrel done twice and did not change anything. 4: melonite or cerakote is 100% better protection than blueing. E. Mrgunsngear from youtube, as well as other forums, is doing a test between chrome lined and melonited/nitrided/QPQ treated barrels to see which is better long term with accuracy after numerous rounds down range.
