I BECAME Chief Constable of South Wales at the beginning of 2004. My husband is Welsh and Welsh-speaking, and we always intended to retire here, so my job has just brought that forward a bit. The first female Chief Constable in Wales has been appointed by South Wales Police. Barbara Wilding will take up the post in January, when Sir Anthony Burden retires. She is currently a Deputy Assistant Commissioner with the Metropolitan Police Service.
