For many years, Fabrangen and Tikkun Leil Shabbat have joined to provide a full evening for Selichot. At approximately 9:15 PM on the Saturday night before Rosh Hashanah, we gather for our joint celebration. We begin with multiple workshops on topics that are intellectual and/or experiential. Selichot prayers focus on God's benevolence, compassion, and the "Thirteen Attributes" with which God is said to govern the world. God proclaimed the Thirteen Attributes to Moses following the Golden Calf incident (Exodus 34:6-7), expressing God's tremendous capacity for forgiveness. These words echo throughout the High Holiday liturgy. Midnight Selichot. A series of Selichot ("supplication") prayers, recited in preparation for the "Days of Awe" of Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur. The actual Selichot are a collage of Torah verses and poetically written Hebrew works in which we ask G‑d to forgive us on a personal and communal level.
