June 20, 1942 - April 29, 2017Lewis Jefferson Moorman III ("Jeff") passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, April 29, surrounded by family. Jeff was born on June 20, 1942 in Washington, D.C., where The award was established in 1961 by Lewis Moorman Jr., a San Antonio businessman who founded it in memory of his father, Dr. Lewis Jefferson Moorman. The elder Moorman was a renowned specialist in the treatment of tuberculosis who also served as dean of the OU College of Medicine from 1931-35. Born in Leitchfield, Ky., in 1875, he died Aug. 2 Dr. Lewis J. Moorman entered medical school with a B. S. degree and graduated in medicine from the University of Louisville, Kentucky, in 1901. In 1903, he went to New York City for postgraduate work and in 1906, he went to the University of Virginia for graduate work in laboratory and to review medicine.
