In 1985 Hulda Hoover McLean, now widowed, sold her personal residence and its forty acre lot to the Sempervirens Fund, intent on creating a place to share the wonders of the natural world with others. After some minor renovations, it was passed on to California State Parks for use as the Rancho del Oso Nature and History Center. Subsequently The ancestors and descendants of the 31st president of the United States Herbert Clark Hoover who was born 10 Sep 1874 in West Branch, Iowa the son of Jesse Clark Hoover (1846-1880) and Hulda Randall Minthorn (1848-1884). He married 10 Feb 1899 Lou Henry in Monterey, Calif. He died 20 Oct 1964 in New York.
