Mar 2017 • Solo. The Sri Thendayuthapani Temple, better known as the Chettiars' Temple or the Tank Road temple, is one of the Singapore Hindu community's most important monuments. A Hindu Temple dating from 1859, that started out with humble beginnings as a statue under a bodhi tree, was replaced in 1983. The Dhandayuthapani Temple comes alive during various festivals, the most prominent being the Thaipusam festival. Devotees embark on a pilgrimage, often carrying "kavadis" as acts of devotion, penance, or gratitude. The vibrant celebrations underscore the cultural significance of the temple. Devotee Experience The Sri Thendayuthapani Temple, better known as the Chettiars' Temple, is one of Singapore Hindu community's most important monuments. The temple was built by the Chettiars (Indian moneylenders) at Tank Road in 1859 and managed by the Chettiars' Temple Society.The temple was reconstructed in 1983 and renovated in 2022.
