Alvar began formal studies at the Escuel Superior de Bellas Artes de San Jorge in Barcelona and won the Young Painter's Prize in 1956. The following year the Instituit Alvar Suñol Muñoz-Ramos, (Alvar) was born on January 20, 1935 in Montgat, a nearby fishing village to Barcelona. Since his youth he showed great artistic talent. Alvar attended to the school Art of Sant Jordi in Barcelona for 16 years.
