In 1867, when Biddle first opened its doors, all the school's teachers had been white. But times had changed. Sanders, who had been born in slavery, was Biddle's first Black president. All but one of the professors in his audience were African American as well. The change had sparked controversy. Situated within Charlotte's University City neighborhood, the 700,000 square foot facility includes state-of-the-art office space, along with a range of amenities to support the working experiences of its crew (employees).
