José Victoriano Huerta Márquez (Spanish pronunciation: [biɣtoˈɾjano ˈweɾta]; 23 December 1850 - 13 January 1916) was a general in the Mexican Federal Army and 39th President of Mexico, who came to power by coup against the democratically elected government of Francisco I. Madero with the aid of other Mexican generals and the U.S. Ambassador to Mexico. Victoriano Huerta (born Dec. 23, 1854, Colotlán, Mex.—died Jan. 13, 1916, El Paso, Texas, U.S.) was the dictatorial president of Mexico (Feb. 18, 1913-July 15, 1914), whose regime united disparate revolutionary forces in common opposition to him.
