The first discovered FA elicitor was monolicollin A, a 8 kDa polypeptide. It was isolated by the Australian plant pathologists Perrin and Cruikhank from the stone fruit rot pathogen Monilia fructicola in 1968. Monolicollin induced formation of faseollin in beans in a concentration of 10 −8 M. Monilinia fructicola is a species of fungus in the order Helotiales. A plant pathogen, it is the causal agent of brown rot of stone fruits.
