This dramatic and breathtaking valley with grassy woodlands and rolling country is surrounded by sandstone escarpments. The valley floor sits at about 300m above sea level with cliff tops up to 700m. Glen Davis, an old shale-mining ghost town on the Capertee River, is located 35 km east of Capertee on the eastern rim of the Capertee Valley. The first mining tunnel, established in 1881, later became the basis of the major mining enterprise which opened in 1938.
