The striking erratic boulders resting on the pavements around Ingleborough are some of the most endearing features of the Dales landscape. So 'out of place' do these geological oddities appear that they draw the camera of even the most casual visitor. In simple terms, erratics are boulders scraped from the valley sides by moving ice and THE glaciated valley of Crummackdale is a geographer's dream. Limestone pavements and scars ring the dale with the higher land to the north is sprinkled with the famous Norber Erratics. Crummackdale (or Crummack Dale) is a small, sparsely-populated dale lying to the north of Austwick. Austwick Beck rises at the head of Crummackdale and flows westward into the River Wenning and then the River Lune which enters the Irish Sea at Lancaster.
