"Premchand" while he is also known as "Munshi Premchand", Munshi being an honorary prefix. A novel writer, story writer and dramatist, he has been referred to as the "Upanyas Samrat" ('Emperor among Novelists') by some Hindi writers. His works include more than a dozen novels, around 250 short stories, several Munshi Premchand. Premchand is one of the greatest Hindustani writers of the modern era. He wrote in both Hindi and Urdu. Credited with being the first writer to introduce realism in Hindi literature, he wrote several novels and short stories which portrayed the lives and struggles of the lower, middle and working classes. His works, which Godaan (Hindi: गोदान, gōdān, lit. 'Cow donation') is a famous Hindi novel by Munshi Premchand.It was first published in 1936 and is considered one of the greatest Hindi novels of modern Indian literature.
