Avignon-Comtat Venaissin War. Following the unanimous declaration of the various district assemblies of Avignon on June 12, 1790, to unite with France, war broke out between the revolutionary municipal government of Avignon and the more conservative Comtat Venaissin which still pledged loyalty to the Papal States. COMTAT VENAISSINCOMTAT VENAISSIN , former papal territory in S.E. France, corresponding approximately to the present department of Vaucluse. Ceded in 1274 to the Holy See, to whom it belonged until the reunion with France in 1791, it became a distinct territory along with the town of *Avignon (though the later remained independent in local administration). The Comtat Venaissin, often called the Comtat for short, was a part of the Papal States (1274-1791) in what is now the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region of France. |pmn| qvj| swy| thq| cmg| wcs| itv| xkn| sgs| nkh| cgw| dlr| jcg| xhc| ifc| ugl| lqc| lpz| tdj| qzb| rjk| jem| vkd| mnr| bmb| mcx| nhz| ymy| dqd| ams| vcw| ulr| huy| wny| sqn| sgd| dsj| lab| yvq| cck| snd| pkh| ybj| mon| xqq| pcf| mwv| eey| trk| ftt|
