The school purchased land from Vardy McBee on the bluff overlooking Reedy River Falls. 1852 - Greenville Manufacturing Company established where Patterson Paper Mill was located. 1870s - Wooden version of Main St. Bridge, over the Reedy River, was constructed. (photo right: taken the day before it was torn down on October 12, 1910. In the mid-1960s, Harriet Wyche (1928-2011) and a small group of members of the Carolina Foothills Garden Club launched a project to establish a park at Reedy River Falls to restore and commemorate Greenville's birthplace. At the time the area was unsightly and crime-ridden, and the river was grossly polluted.
