Torbay Council vacated Oldway mansion in 2011 and it was handed was handed to a developer for conversion to a hotel. When this did not happen, and it was handed back to the Council in 2016, a working party was set up to decide its future. On the working party, we consulted widely and brought in representatives from the key community organisations. Oldway Mansion was built in the late 19th Century for the Singer sewing machine family and the building and grounds are listed for protection because of their historic importance.
